CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle touch approach that releases tension in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve health and performance. CranioSacral therapy releases tensions in the soft tissues and fluid that surround the brain and spinal cord, the CranioSacral system. This fluid is known as cerebrospinal fluid and it surrounds and provides for the brain and promotes homeostasis by removing waste products. By releasing the tension in the CranioSacral system, cerebrospinal fluid can flow and heal the body in a natural way.
CranioSacral Therapy can help a wide variety of problems including migraines and headaches, vertigo, ADD/ADHD, and TMJ syndrome. Therapists also believe it can be used to treat concussions, which are defined as trauma-induced alteration in mental status that may or may not involve loss of consciousness. Concussions can cause increased sensitivity to changes in cerebral blood flow and metabolic dysregulation which can lead to more injury to the brain as well as prolonged brain swelling, especially in children and teenagers. The therapist begins treatment by evaluating the craniosacral rhythm for symmetry, quality, and amplitude, particularly concerning the movement of the bones of the cranial vault. The therapist then focuses on releasing external forces that have affected the cranial bones and/or the intracranial membrane system. The release of these forces allows the cerebrospinal fluid to flow freely and heal the body more effectively.
Pediatric Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is a light-touch therapy shown to be effective in supporting the central nervous system so that child’s body can self-correct and heal naturally. The central nervous system influences every other major body system and function. That is why problems here can cause a wide range of sensory, motor or neurological disabilities.
By supporting the central nervous system and releasing restrictions, CranioSacral therapy has shown to bring about profound healing. Since it is so gentle, non-invasive and virtually risk free, children of all ages can benefit from this therapy.
Myofascial release is a hands on technique performed by a trained physical therapist or massage therapist to release the restrictions and adhesions from previous injury.
Myofascial release is a gentle technique where hands are placed on the skins over the area of pain. It works through the many layers and “melts” the layers to allow your body to relax and free the restrictions that are causing the pain and symptoms.
Occasionally, other areas of the body become red and lead the therapist to areas that are not symptomatic, but can be causing the problem without the patient being aware.
Neuromuscular/Deep tissue massage
Neuromuscular massage addresses trigger points, nerve compression, postural issues, as well as biomechanical problems that can be caused by repetitive movement injuries. Massage aims to relieve chronic tension throughout the muscles and fibrous tissues within the body. It’s known to greatly increase flexibility and range of motion, and also to improve posture and restore the body’s natural harmony.
Based on an ancient Chinese therapy, reflexology involves manipulation of specific reflex areas in the foot that correspond to other parts of the body. Sometimes referred to as zone therapy, this bodywork involves application of pressure to these reflex zones to stimulate body organs and relieve areas of congestion. Similar to acupressure principles, reflexology works with the body’s energy flow to stimulate self-healing and maintain balance in physical function. This technique is used to reduce pain, increase relaxation, and stimulate circulation of blood and lymphatic fluids.
Manual Lymph Drainage Therapy
Lymph drainage therapy (LDT) is a gentle, rhythmical technique that cleanses the connective tissue of inflammatory materials and toxins, enhances the activity of the immune system, reduces pain, and lowers the activity of the sympathetic nervous system. Lymph drainage therapy consists of massage using gentle pumping techniques to drain away pockets of water retention and trapped toxins, primarily focusing on specific nodes, as well as the natural flow of the lymph system. LDT is intended to encourage the natural drainage of excess lymph fluid out of the tissue and back into the lymph vessels. LDT is performed using a light touch technique to activate lymph and interstitial fluid circulation.
Raindrop is performed by applying and layer of 9 different young living essential oils to the feet, back and spine. The combination of oils along with application, allows the oils to penetrate the body rapidly and begin their therapeutic process on a cellular level. Raindrop technique combines the art of aromatherapy, with the techniques of Vita Flex, Reflexology and massage. Raindrop is designed to bring the body back into structural and electrical alignment as well as a tool to provide a healthy balance to the body. Essential oils also stimulate the nerves and the re-growth of tissue.
