You would think living in the tundra we would be at peace with the cold weather and mounds of snow in our backyard. Now that February is soon upon us things are what we would say “getting real” and there seems to be no end in sight.
If you are anything like me the snooze button is getting some extra attention these days along with just less energy and lack of sunlight is really dampening my mood. So how do we get out of this “blah” and get some much-needed excitement back into our lives?
One of the best ways to keep the blues away is exercise and movement! You knew I was going to say it! But really it is true, our bodies are built and meant to move and the endorphins will give you that little extra boost you need. Now this doesn’t mean just hitting the gym, you could try skating/sledding with your kids or grandkids, building a snowman, bundle up and go for a short walk outside, or possibly check into a new hobby (curling anyone?).
Checking out area events is another great resource as there are a lot of fun winter festivals and a lot indoor/outdoor events for kids. These activities can give you endless hours of fun and some time spent outside of the home. Or how about bingo with co-workers to mix up the monotonous work week routine?!
The main thing to remember is you are not alone. Many people in the Midwest start feeling the effects of winter. When in doubt, call up a friend to grab a cup a coffee, plan a play date, and use these as mini mood boosters. “Misery loves company” … but for real, use each other to build up some positivity so we CAN get through this.
So, although our mood may be like the falling temps try and keep this simple quote in mind as a reminder for how beautiful this season really is and lets all try and make the best of it!
