Foods to Eat to Avoid Inflammation

Summer time foods to eat to avoid inflammation

The holiday season is often considered the time for big eating. But let’s face it; with brats, burgers, potato salad, and ice cream, summer can be full of unhealthy foods too.

Fortunately, there are some healthy, delicious, and in-season foods that you can eat during the summer. Best of all, the foods we have listed are all anti-inflammatory, giving you an additional boost to your summer meals!

What to Eat During Summer to Avoid Inflammation

Strawberries

Summer is the ideal time for strawberries! All across the country, you’ll find fresh, juicy strawberries that are loaded with vitamin C, a nutrient that is known to reduce inflammation. If you don’t love summer strawberries, pick blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries to get the same benefit.

Radishes

Radishes add both crunch and flavor to your summer diet, and they are full of powerful inflammatory-fighting ingredients. It’s believed that the sulfur-containing compounds in radishes give it the ability to fight off inflammation.

Tomatoes

Rich in vitamin C, potassium, and lycopene, tomatoes are a nutritional powerhouse and a wonderful anti-inflammatory food. Visit a local farmer’s market during the summer and you’ll likely find plump, juicy tomatoes that can add seasonal nutrition and flavor to any meal.

Bell Peppers

Bell peppers of all colors, as well as different types of peppers, have plenty of vitamin C, making them a powerful anti-inflammatory food. They can be eaten fresh, with a bit of hummus, or you can grill them with salt, pepper, and a touch of olive oil to give your meal a healthy side dish.

Salmon

We needed a protein on this list, and few meats are as healthy, and anti-inflammatory, as salmon. You might think that all cookouts are all about burgers, brats, chops, and steaks, but grilling salmon is easier than you think and brings a healthy option to your summer evenings by the grill.

Green Tea

Of course, we also need a healthy summer beverage, one that has anti-inflammatory properties, and green tea is a perfect option. Cold green tea makes a refreshing drink in the summer, and you can add lemon or honey to give it a sweeter flavor.
