Camping is in Tents!
Summertime is here and that means it is camping season!
Whether you are camping a few miles down the road, across the state, across the country, or even in your own back yard just being outside can provide you with many benefits. The fresh air and sunshine can improve your mood and concentration, boost your energy, strengthen your immune system, and more than 90% of your Vitamin D is obtained from natural sunlight.
Whether you are a seasoned camping veteran or a first-time newbie, here are a few things that I find essential:
Hydration is crucial since you lose more fluids when it is hot out. Drinking water not only helps your body regulate temperature but it also keeps your organs functioning properly.
• Hack: freeze water bottles ahead of time. They will double as ice in your cooler and are drinkable when they thaw.
• Bonus Hack: Sore feet from hiking? Roll your arches against a frozen water bottle.
Nothing ruins a camping trip more than a sunburn. It is important to wear a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and reapply every 2 hours. Even overcast/windy days pose a risk as you may not feel the heat of the sun but the UVA and UVB rays are still hitting your skin.
FIRST AID KIT
A pre-assembled first aid kit works great. However, if you are choosing to assemble your own make sure to include: adhesive bandages, butterfly bandages, gauze pads, sterile wipes, antibiotic ointment, pain and anti-inflammatory medicine, hydrocortisone cream, antihistamine, eyedrops, and tweezers.
because even though you try your best, sunburn happens…
