No Foolin’ This April Fools Day – Make sure to Laugh

Tis the Season for Delightful pranks, gotchya moments, and plenty of belly laughs.

April Fool’s Day is right around the corner – the season for delightful pranks, gotchya moments, and plenty of belly laughs.

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, “Laughter is the Best Medicine”, but is that just a fun little motto to live by or is there any scientific truth to it?

Yes, and there is and plenty of it! According to mayoclinic.org, laughter has many health benefits that affect both our long and short-term pathways to healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Short-term benefits of the glorious giggle:

  • Stimulates your lungs, heart, and helps your brain produce endorphins (the “feel good” hormone.)
  • Activates and relieves the stress response. It also increases and decreases a person’s heart rate and blood pressure, resulting in a relaxed feeling.
  • Soothes tension. Laughing can stimulate circulation and helps muscles relax, reducing the physical symptoms of stress.

Long-term benefits of a laugh a day:

  • Improves your immune system. Thinking positively releases neuropeptides that help fight stress, therefore increasing immunity.
  • Relieves pain. Laughter releases hormones that are like natural painkillers.
  • Improves mood. Laughter can help reduce stress and anxiety and improve self-esteem.

April Fools everyday – how to add laughter back into your life:

  • Don’t take things too seriously. Find the humor and light wherever you can.
  • Keep funny comic strips or memes in sight around your home or workspace. Social Media shares are always appreciated too!
  • Watch a comedian or funny movie. Let your hair down and enjoy the show.
  • Plain. Laugh. Even if it is fake, that forced laughter can soon turn into real laughter. Try it!

Whether you have prankful plans for the annual-good-for-a-laugh holiday or not, spark joy from your smile to your guffaw with this video.
