New Year’s Resolution for New Moms

Let’s face it–2020 has been nothing short of a roller coaster of events and emotions. It has been a tough year for many of us- physically, mentally and emotionally. Add being in the post-partum population into the mix and you really have been dealt a full hand this year! In many ways, moms are superhuman- essentially the glue that keeps your family together. With that being said, PLEASE remember to take care of yourself just as much as you take care of your family– they need you to be happy and healthy just as much as you need them to be!

Are you struggling to get rid of that baby pouch?
Can’t seem to run like your pre-baby days because you have an urge to use the bathroom every 30 minutes?

Due to lack of awareness, embarrassment around these issues, and thinking that this is just a normal’ part of being a mom, many women do not know where or how to seek help. Many mothers do not even realize help is available.

Although diastasis recti and bladder incontinence are two of the most common side effects after childbirth, some other full-body effects on a woman’s body during and after pregnancy include:

  • Increased joint reaction forces at the knee, leading to increased knee pain and dysfunction
  • Strength and activation patterns of the hip musculature are altered during gait, placing hips at an increased risk of injury or dysfunction
  • All abdominal muscles are weakened and lengthened
  • Decreased mobility through the thoracic spine, which can lead to neck, shoulder, low back, and hip dysfunctions
  • Post-partum fatigue and depression

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, or even other orthopedic issues that make you feel abnormal, physical therapy is a great choice for you!
