Hand and Wrist Conditions

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is caused by pressure on the nerve at the base of your palm. It’s common to see in professions that place their wrist at extreme positions or those with a lot of finger use (example, using the mouse), but it can also be caused by certain health conditions, such as those associated with fluid retention. In some cases, surgical intervention may be necessary, but physical therapy will continue to be beneficial to regain the previous function.

Symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome include:

  • Burning or tingling
  • “Pins and needles”
  • Numbness in the hand or wrist area
  • Hand weakness

At Apex, your physical therapist will complete an evaluation of the joint and create a plan of care that will best suit your lifestyle demands and needs.
