An elbow fracture occurs when there is a break in the middle of the arm, around the elbow joint. It is most commonly caused by trauma, such as falling on the elbow or an outstretched hand. Severe fractures may require surgical intervention.
Symptoms associated with an elbow fracture include:
severe pain with elbow and arm movement,
tightness, stiffness, swelling or throbbing around the joint,
grinding or catching sensations,
numbness possibly down to the hand
an unusual shape to the arm.
