Hip Impingement
Trauma from repetitive hip flexion damages the cartilage of the socket, changing the shape of the surface of the hip joint causing the joint not to move smoothly. This may lead to increased pain and stiffness within the hip joint. Cam and pincer are two commons types of hip impingement that have similar symptoms. Severe cases surgical intervention may be required.
Symptoms include:
- Stiffness and aching pain in the front or side of the hip when resting
- Stabbing pain with motion at the hip
- Pain with prolonged sitting or leaning forward
- A decrease in flexibility in the hip
At Apex, your physical therapist will assess the joint and work with you to create a treatment plan that best suits your individual goals and needs.
