Shoulder Labral Tear
The shoulder labrum is a ring of cartilage that surrounds the shoulder joint to help keep the arm and shoulder blade in place and add stability. Sometimes the labrum can become disrupted, frayed, or torn following a trauma, such as a shoulder dislocation or heavy lifting, but it can also occur from muscle weakness and shoulder instability. Some labral tears may need surgical intervention but would continue to benefit from physical therapy intervention to restore the joint function.
Symptoms
Common symptoms of a labral tear include: pain at the top of your shoulder, “popping, clunking, or catching” with shoulder movements, as well as shoulder weakness.
