But, some people are not able to enjoy this delicious food because of clicking or pain in their jaw.
Do you have clicking or pain in your jaw when you talk or eat?
This could be a sign that you are having TMD (temporomandibular dysfunction). Our jaw has a joint right in front of each ear where it hinges and allows us to open/close our mouths several hundred times a day. In each joint, there is a little disc that deepens and cushions the joint. This disc can also cause issues for various reasons leading to painful or nonpainful clicking.
We have many different muscles that attach around this area that can cause pain also, so it is important to figure out exactly what is causing the issue: joint, disc, or muscle. Our posture has a lot to do with our jaw position also and can lead to tightness/laxity in certain muscles which can lead to pain or dysfunction.
Physical therapy is often not thought of as a treatment for this type of issue, but since we are highly trained to treat the neuromuscular system including nerves, joints and muscles of the body, we have the tools to treat this and to be very effective in treating this area.
Come see a PT at Apex Physical Therapy & Wellness to get you back to eating that delicious steak again!
