October is National Physical Therapy Month as well as it being National Massage Therapy week the last week in October! Woohoo! So many fun things to celebrate.
Here at Apex Physical Therapy and Wellness Center, we are always looking for a cause to celebrate.
This past Monday, the Apex staff went out into the community to go plogging. Yes, plogging. You read that right.
Your follow-up question might be something along the lines of ‘Is that even a real word?’ Well, yes, plogging is actually a real word that is of Swedish descent.
Plogging is defined as ‘the combination of jogging with picking up litter.’ It is derived from the Swedish verbs plocka upp (pick up) and jogga (jog). When you combine those two verbs together, you get ‘plog.’ See, you learn something new every day!
Plogging started out as an organized activity in Sweden in 2016 to raise awareness around plastic pollution. This new activity was quickly adopted by other countries in Europe. Plogging is now gaining more global traction as a way to help out your community as well as getting some physical activity. As a workout, this provides multiple different movements such as running/walking, squatting, and stretching – a triple threat!
On Monday, October 12th, the Apex staff broke up into small groups and went out plogging in the communities of West Fargo, Jamestown, and LaMoure. What better way to help out and keep our community clean while getting some good physical exercise! Practice what we preach, right?
We are proud and happy to be a part of our respective communities and want to do our part to keep them clean. If you are looking to get a good workout while helping out your community, check out plogging!
Send us a picture of you and/or your group plogging as well.
We’d love to see you!
